Another Thursday. Another date in the Premier League darts roadshow. Only this week is a ittle different than most – overshadowed as it is by the Masters of Darts tournament in the Netherlands. That tournament has been dominated by the conyinuing eclipse of Phil Taylor by Barney (Barneveld beat the Power three – nil on Monday night); the scintillating form of Michael Van Gerwen (beating Taylor 3-0 on Saturday proving a nonsense of Sid’s utterances last week when he claimed that Lewis was a better talent than the young Dutchman); and a real surge of form for Peter ‘One Dart’ Manley – who has won all of his matches this week inclusing victories over Barney and Mighty Mike.
Manley v Van Barneveld
It is Manley’s form that really interests me regarding the action tonight. He has been throwing the darts of his life against top notch throwers in Holland and looks massively over-priced against Barneveld tonight. OK – Barney is probably the most likely winner but Manley has already beaten him once this week and will be going into tonight’s match on a high of confidence (never a shrinking violet at the worst of times) and form. No way should he be 10.0 on Betfair and I am snapping up that price.
Back Manley @ 10.0
Lloyd v Lewis
Lloyd versus Lewis really is a match to savour tonight. Lewis was pretty impressive against Manley last week but I think he may come unstuck against Jaws this evening. Lloyd beat Van Gerwen in a pulsating match in Holland this week – averaging 106 and winning in a deciding leg. If he comes into tonight’s match in that kind of form he has a massive chance and is the favourite in my book. I am backing him at 2.46.
Back lloyd @ 2.46
Scholten v Priestley
Scholten looked to be cruising to victory against Jenkins last week before the ‘Bull’ came back with a proper late rattle to displace the Tripod. Having said that, the Dutchman does look to be in good nick in the Premier League and clearly loves this competition. Priestley should probably have beaten Taylor last week – losing his bottle at a crucial stage in the game and I reckon that the flying Dutchman might just come out of the blocks too quickly tonight. I’m backing Scholten to win at 2.42.
Back Scholten @ 2.42
Taylor v Jenkins
And now to the question of the dieting Power. Like Samson with his hair does Taylor lose some of his strength when he sheds the pounds? His performances in recent weeks have been lacking in any real power and he should have lost against old rival Dennis Priestley last week. He has also been in woeful form at the Masters of Darts tournament – being eliminated before this weekend’s semi final stage. Jenkins, on the other hand, is riding the crest of a wave after his comeback win against Scholten last week and I reckon he could at least give the Power a bit of a fright this evening. I’m having a trading back on jenkins at the 10.0 on Betfair.
Back to lay Jenkins @ 10.0
Keeping The Draw On Our Side
The draw has been very much in evidence in the past two weeks with Taylor drawing both of his opening matches. Indeed, in short games like this against fairly evenly matches opponents a draw should be a very good possibility and was one leg away from happening in two of the other matches last week. We made good money on the Taylor draw last week and I’m going for a full cover bet with Bet Fred (singles at 15/2 for taylor match, 6/1 for Barney match and 9/2 for the other two matches with Betfair, doubles, trebles and a fourfold).
